The Ball and Chain is a weapon from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. This weapon consists of a heavy metal ball attached to a long chain, similar to a flail. When thrown, it can be used to break ice, platforms and glass, as well as to destroy enemies. It can also be used to hit chandeliers, allowing Link to use them as platforms. Another useful feature is that the Ball and Chain also serves as a makeshift Shield. A downside of the Ball and Chain is that it, when held, slows Link down considerably, making him an easy target for enemies. However, it does not slow him down as much as wearing the Iron Boots would. He also cannot be moved by heavy winds while carrying it.
The Ball and Chain is obtained after Link defeats Darkhammer in the Snowpeak Ruins. After the enemy disappears into smoke, he leaves the Ball and Chain behind, allowing Link to pick it up.
In other games, this weapon is wielded by Ball & Chain Troopers, which acts as a makeshift shield for them, as well as causing massive damage, making them feared enemies. These weapons cannot be used by Link. General Onox also uses one in his battle against Link.
This is one of two items in the game which are first wielded by the mini-boss of a dungeon that become available for Link's use once defeated, the other being the Gale Boomerang.
