- "Dear guest...Long ago, I was in an animal troupe, with dogs and donkeys and such. Why could a...? Why could a...? Why could a man join?!? That's 'cause a man is an animal, too, my boy!"
- — Guru-Guru
When Link visits the Laundry Pool at night, he meets Guru-Guru, who has been thrown out of his room in the Stock Pot Inn for making too much noise. In order to get his mind off of it, Guru-Guru tells Link a story about his youth. He explains that once he was part of an Animal Troupe with dogs, donkeys and other animals. However, he disliked the fact that the troupe's leader was a dog instead of him. Despite having respect for the dog's leadership abilities, Guru-Guru stole the dog's Bremen Mask out of jealousy. He goes on to say that he no longer needs the mask and gives it to Link as thanks for listening to his story.
The Animal Troupe is likely inspired by the German tale of the Town Musicians of Bremen by the Brothers Grimm. The tale is about four animals (donkey, dog, cat, and rooster) who are too old to be useful on the farm, so they begin a life as musicians. The backstory of the Animal Troupe and the fact that troupe's leader once owned the Bremen Mask supports this concept.
