Island Navigation Template

Seems cool. But all those links look messy. There is an alternative. We can use the ImageMap extension. It looks like it requires ImageMagick, and we seem to have the up and running now. On a similar note, the ImageLink extension would be very useful for the Nominated, featured, and admin templates.User:Matt/sig 18:11, January 3, 2009 (UTC)

OK, ImageMap and RandomSelection are successfully installed, tested and working. Unfortunately ImageLink is a no-go, as there's currently no build compatible with MediaWiki version 1.13.x :( User:Adam/sig 20:06, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

At Zeldapendium we use both, ImageMap and the "normal" links - so the visitor can look for the position of an island or it's name. If you just want to look for an island and don't know where it is, the image map without any names is really unhandy --Pascal 22:24, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Majora's Mask Images

Hey Adam. I've been going through the Wiki and adjusting the unsourced images. I noticed you've uploaded a bunch of Zelda Dungeon's images from the Majora's Mask Walkthrough. That's Awesome! They are almost all 512 × 384 pixels. Do you recall ever finding these types of images from anywhere else other than Zelda Dungeon? Since It's getting a bit annoying looking at my walkthrough to find the image, and then coming back here to make sure its the same image, and then finally putting the tag. If I knew you just got them all from ZD, I could just assume you got them from ZD and it will go a lot smoother. Mases 07:54, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. I'm pretty sure that all those images came from ZD. Back when I was trawling the web harvesting all the images I could find, your site seemed to be among the most comprehensive, so a lot of the images I uploaded probably cam from there! Unfortunately, I never kept a record of where they were each downloaded from, plus I've since reformatted my machine and lost all the sites I had bookmarked for Zelda images! But yeah, I'd say it's safe to assume that if you recognise an image as your own, it almost certainly is! User:Adam/sig 12:49, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

OOT Images

I noticed you were adding some OOT images. We recently posted a new walkthrough section of OOT at our site, covering the Gerudo section. http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Zelda05-ocarina-of-time-walkthrough-13.php Take a look at it. If there are some good ones there, feel free too add them. I didn't think the youtube ones were of the best quality. Quite frankly, I don't see how this is true. You continued to upload images both after the first and second messages. So you could not have been away then. After a little digging, I think there's no need to worry about it. This gave me a clue, and after checking the guy's user profile at ZU it seems he just changed his name, and updated his theory here to reflect that. About my uploaded images

Check my latest contributions, is that what you've been asking of me? Axio helped me understand, so I'm just checking if that's all I need to do. I'll go through the sites I used later on (as in, actually will - I have to go out right now), and I'll finish crediting the rest of the images.

ahh, I see. I was just really confused since I didn't realize you could edit the actual image page, so I thought I had to fill my article with templates. I've only been a wiki member for a few days, so I'm doing okay minus this hiccup considering the amount of time (: I'll get back to finding all of the other sites I used, and I'll correct the edits for the ZD finds. Phantom Hourglass Enemy Gallery

Axiomist told me that you were working on these guides, but I decided to do one because, well, I wanted to haha. Anyway, I tried to keep it like the other enemy galleries, and I hope it's done alright. I cited all of the images I uploaded, and of course you can change it how you see fit. Removal From Wiki

As you may or may not have known. Jason has removed Zelda Dungeon as a supporting site from the Wiki. Check out the secret place for more info. As an active admin who I've worked with a lot during my tenure here at the Wiki, your input would be much appreciated, but I also encourage you to not take my word for it and keep an open mind. Site Images

Images, such as the screenshots of layouts, or the images of custom images made for a website. I think we should leave those alone for now, until we come to a decision about what to do with them. Right now, I'm in the process of changing the obvious images. (Sprites, Screenshots), and am going to save the more difficult ones so we can handle on an individual basis. Yeah, that's another issue we'll have to discuss. I was trying to remove some of the now incorrectly-categorized stuff from Category:Copyrighted images. At the moment there's a manageable amount to check through (about 9 pages), but if we do all the other work first it'll grow into a much less manageable task to root out the stuff that shouldn't be in there. Profile page

You could have at least let me do it... Mind if I change it around for a while till I get it right? Also, that wasn't the pic I was hoping to use. I just did what Steve had set up with his profile. Also, why can't it stay up? If it gets deleted, I'll just change it. Also, the other one is on my navbar. And what do you mean by "fixed-text"? Sorry- I'm still trying to get accumulated around here. I just noticed that you're actually using two nearly identical profile pics, with the text in slightly different places. You have two options really; if you're going to use multiple rotating pics, you need to ensure that they're displayed permanently somewhere else also. Or, you could to stick to one profile image, that way it will be used in multiple places and there won't be a problem. Also, it'll be easier to change if you decide you want to. I've changed back what I edited while you decide. (I didn't say "fixed-text", but fixed alt-text; that is the hidden text displayed when you hover over an image, which at a cursory glance was all I could see being changed by that template) User:Adam/sig 07:24, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Userboxes and sig font...

Hey. I went to your user page and saw your userboxes. I use Internet Explorer and normally when I go to user pages, including my own, the browser will always cut off the userboxes. However it doesn't seem to cut them off at all in your user page, how did you managed to do that? Hi there! On the userbox thing, I just checked my userpage in IE7 and the boxes collapsed down like they always have. So actually, I have a question for you; how did you manage to get IE to work properly, for once? (Also, why would you want to!?) ;)

For custom signatures, there's a help page, as well as a category showing all the ones created so far. You can start with something quite basic, such as just changing the overall font an colour, or go for something more complex like multiple links and font styles/colours. Screencap requests?

I've seen your name attached to a truckload of image edits and updates lately, so I'm guessing you're the go-to guy for this sort of thing. I'm about to re-play through A Link to the Past and I was wondering if you had any screencap requests?

Well, I can think of a few enemies or dungeon traps that we're missing:

• A decent sprite of the Spark, since the image at the moment is captured from YouTube
• The wall-mounted cannons found in dungeons
• Those boxes in dungeons that shoot fire when swinging your swordFile:LttP fireswordtrap.gif Also got the trap that shoots fireballs at regular intervals, I don't think we have that one.
• A shot of a floor tile room in action

With the addition of those (and some images I have for creatures that lack articles at the moment), I'm pretty sure we should have every enemy covered. Some items that we're missing are:

• Green Potion (in the cauldron, like this) I also updated the existing red and blue cauldrons to the larger size, hope that's okay. I think the tiny little images we've got for LttP right now are too small. I'm taking all these screencaps at double size.
• Titan's Mitt (we only have the Power Glove Sprite LttP.gif|Power Glove)
• Mushroom from the Lost Woods Missed my chance to get a clear image without the mist from Link's inventory!
• Magic Jar/DecanterFile:MagicDecanterbig.pngFile:MagicDecantersmall.png

Also, some important places are missing images; there's no external shot of Link's House for example, and the image of Hyrule Castle is terrible. Other than that, any shots of interesting scenes you can think of would be nice, such as fighting Agahnim (showing his attacks in action), using the Medallions, the Flute-playing boy etc. Thanks for offering to help out, and I hope that's not too much extra work for you :) User:Adam/sig 07:46, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Sacred Realm

Hey, I saw that you have locked the Sacred Realm page, and I have been helping to rewrite it. There was no edit war, so I do not understand your reasoning for locking it. Can you please explain or unlock it so we can continue work on it? Also can you please explain why you destroyed all the work that was done to the page?? That took quite some time to put together, and I am trying to help improve it so that it contains good information about the Sacred Realm. I'd like the chance to continue work on it if you wouldn't mind. And for the record, none of the information that was added for it was "irrelevant" to me or obviously anyone else, so can you please explain why you feel it was? The history and legends told of the Sacred Realm were included and were not yet complete. I was not yet done pairing down what I'd written or fully adding everything yet either. So I'd appreciate it if you could either explain your action or please remove the block so I can continue work on the article with anyone else who'd like to help. Link87 12:29, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

The concerns which were shared by myself and Dany about the information you added are here. The reversion was for the reasons I described, and the protection was a preventative measure against the kind of edit warring I've seen you take part in previously.

Also, please consider what Matt suggested here, as you caused an edit conflict while I was trying to reply to you. Also, I'm noticing a disturing tendency of yours to respond confrontationally, using inappropriate language which causes bad feeling and escalates situations. Um, excuse me, but you have no grounds to do that unless an actual edit war has taken place in this case. And for the record, Ganondorfdude11 and I were able to work things out afterward, and he agreed he was in the wrong. So unless you have real proof of an edit war in this case, you have no grounds to do what you just did really. I have been more than civil in many cases, if you actually read what was said in that instance, I was the one being called names and insulted for much of the conversation. But then again you weren't around to see it I suppose. So to repeat, I'd like you to explain why you felt it was necessary to lock the page and for its continued lock, or please unlock it so work can be completed on it. I am writing other admins to ask about it as well. Nothing wrong has been done here, and I was not done with the page either. You didn't give me a chance to complete work on it. I just had to stop for the day b/c I had to leave my computer for the evening. And for the record, if I am met with cynicism and offensiveness, I will return it. I only ever use it when one employs it against me. So I don't think that's for you to say, and I don't think you've read every single comment that was made toward me that started those instances either. That is beside the point though. The point is you do not have the authority to block a page just b/c of something that happened in the past and was resolved. That's only if an actual edit war has taken place in this instance, and it hasn't. I don't want to fight with you man, I'd like to get along with you, but even you have to admit that what you did here was a bit unnecessary and that bringing up old conflicts is being a bit biased, considering they have nothing to do with the matter at hand. • Preventative measures are valid, regardless of whether you wish to question my motives.
• The block will automatically expire in 24 hours.
• If another admin deems my actions excessive, they will take action.
• You took the article from 600 up to 2800 words. As I stated, my view is that it's impossible for all of the information added to be valid.
• Please use the 24 hours to cool off and consider the situation from other viewpoints. None of the information is gone (or "destroyed") and can be seletively restored if agreed by consensus. User:Adam/sig 13:00, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

"Preventitive measures" are not valid if they are not warranted. And keep this in mind: "Contrary to popular belief, being an Admin does not grant you much more power than what is given as a normal member." You cannot lock a page simply b/c you don't like the person that's rewriting it, especially when they've made attempts to negotiate with you. I am perfectly "cool" right now, and I wanted to complete work on the article and even agreed with what Dany was saying, but you didn't give me a chance to finish work on it. I would like to resolve this with you yourself and to have you remove the block so we can continue work on it today rather than tomorrow. I only have so much time each day that I can work on articles here. And none of the reasons you listed above are valid. If I remember correctly, the only justification for locking a page is when there is an edit war over the page or there is damage being done to it, neither of which holds in this case. I don't want to throw any accusations of abuse of powers here, b/c I believe you also want to improve the wiki to the best of standards, but what you did here does not have any grounds for this action nor does it really seem legal under these circumstances. Merely b/c I am the one doing the rewrite does not justify you locking the page b/c you've had arguments with me in the past. I'd like to put that behind us, but if anyone's keeping that from being under the bridge here it's you. I'd like to forgive and forget myself. Just b/c the size of the article increased doesn't mean I was done with it either. You didn't give me a chance to pare it down, which is something I do usually when I'm done adding everything I had in mind, and I didn't even get to do that. You also didn't give me a chance to even respond to the comments on the talk page for the article either, and there is no evidence of any edit war. So I will once again ask that you please unlock the page, for the good of the article. If not, then I am content with asking other admins to do it. But it would be nice and a gesture of good will on your part to do it yourself. If you do not respond to such an overture simply b/c you know you made a blunder in doing what you did, that does not show your actions were in good faith. We all make mistakes and I hold nothing against you at all, but I think many would agree that you were wrong to do what you did, considering you took action without any real justification to support it and gave no opportunity for response, especially given that I agreed with what Dany was saying. This seems more to be a personal vendetta on your part, and as I said I would like to put our past arguments (some of which were started by both you and myself equally) behind us and work together. But if you fail to respond positively to this, I think you only prove my point that the one with the problem here is you. Thought I'd reply here, as these comments are relevant to the situation rather than the article itself. While I regret that you feel that my actions were unfair or unjustified, I hope you appreciate that that I didn't take any action directly against you, but merely took the steps I saw as necessary to safeguard this particular article. Perhaps my haste in using the default protection reason rather than writing a full explanation, and the lack of any other protection duration than 1 hour or 1 day (now fixed), prevented you from seeing my actual intentions. In any case, I'm pleased that this resulted in what I'd hoped for, namely a productive discussion on the talk page followed by a more considered and constructive approach towards expanding and improving the article.

It's often difficult to see one's own edits in an impartial and objective light, which can make the reactions of others seem unreasonable to you, whereas an onlooker with no vested interest may not share that view. Perspective can be difficult to achieve and maintain for all of us. Unfortunately, edits which contain both positive and negative elements always present a dilemma to admins; do we remove them (partially or fully)? Edit or alter them? Flag them for future improvement? The conundrum is compounded when the edits in question are such large and sweeping changes.

Anyway, editing theory aside I hope that this episode has been something which we can both learn from, as I have no desire to witness or be drawn into further unnecessary and counter-productive conflict in future. User:Adam/sig 19:30, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

I understand where you are coming from man, and no harm done at all. I am glad you were willing to explain your action though, and I understand your position as an admin can present difficult situations at times, b/c we have no way of verbally talking to each other and we are not all always able to be on when other are. For example, it appears you are from England (wondeful country, I have my family's roots there and would love to one day visit Wales to see where my family originated from) and I am from the United States (Illinois is my home, but I'm in Florida for the summer). So our time zone differences can seem to be a source of confusion at times too since perhaps I am able to be on when you aren't or vice versa. But really though Adam, I would like to work with you and befriend you as we go forward and work together on these. And don't be afraid to just ask me if you feel there's been a miscommunication. I will gladly respond in a friendly manner if you just ask me, and I will do the same as well. I look forward to working with you as we go forward, and together we can help not only ourselves but others avoid episodes of confusion as we've both witnessed. Thanks again for understanding and coming back to the table.

On another note, take a look at the Sacred Realm article now. I'd like to have your input on the talk page and any suggestions you may have for improvements to its present form.
