- Early 2006—The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap manga, written by Akira Himekawa was published in Japan.
- March 23—Satoru Iwata announces The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on the DS for the first time with a trailer during his keynote address at the 2006 Game Developers Conference in San Jose.[1]
- December 11—Game Informer reported that A new Zelda for the Wii has been "deep in development for around a year."[2]
